Langkawi Laman Padi πŸŒΎπŸŸ

Are you a natural lover ? Then you’d visit Laman Padi in Langkawi. Laman stands for field and Padi stands for rice in Malay. Laman Padi is located in Pantai Cenang and opposite to Meritus Pelangi. It was established in June 1999.

This vast open complex comprises of number of rice fields, herb gardens and galleries or museums where the process and evolution of rice cultivation and also harvesting in Langkawi is exhibited.

Once the paddy is fully grown, they are harvested by women who pluck them out and make bundles in the field. This is when the men farmers come in and take the bundles away to the rice mills or factory for further processing.

Furthermore, we can also participate in planting and harvesting rice in knee deep water. If we express our willingness, the guide will help us with that as well. The section called ‘Garden of Variety’ is usually the place where we try our hand in rice planting and harvesting. We will find cows and water buffaloes in the field. The muddy holes or pits in the fields are favorite resting places for the buffaloes. While the cows are often seen grazing on the fields.

Moreover, there are also fish trapping water areas in the paddy fields. The guide will show us a net made out of cane that looks like a large inverted cup. We can put it on the cat fish, cover it up, insert our hand through the hole on top, catch it and bring it out.
